Character: Spira

This project showcases the repetitive and mundane life of Spira, who is a tropical animal stranded alone in the freezing Antartica. He dreams day and night, hoping to be instantly transfer back to the tropical island where he belongs. When days and nights repeat without excitement, Spira kill time by staring into fish under the glacier. In this project, the crank mechanism is applied to the movement of the animal’s mouth, to recreate the action of eating algae under water.
For the video, I focused on recreating parts of the original story from previous week.

Last week I explored the mechanism of crank made out of paper and learned that if I used laser cut instead of paper folding, some details of this process can be simplified, for example, the inside crank mechanism does not need to be separated into two pieces and glued together.
